Fellowship Notes – Mindset First: God's Standards, Not Ours

This week's fellowship centered around one powerful truth:
Our standard must be God's standard.
The world is constantly telling us how to think, how to live, and how to make decisions. Friends have opinions. Family has opinions. Social media has opinions. Even our own feelings can become a standard if we're not careful.
But the question is:
Whose standard are we living by?
One of the statements that stood out to me was:
"People's opinions do not matter. God's standards do."
Jesus never based His decisions on culture, tradition, or what people expected Him to do. He consistently pointed back to the Father.
"I do nothing on My own, but speak just what the Father has taught Me." (John 8:28)
Everything Jesus did flowed from obedience. He didn't compromise to fit in. He didn't change His message because it was unpopular. He followed God's direction, even when it went against tradition and the expectations of others.
That challenged me.
Sometimes God will lead us in a direction that doesn't make sense. It may seem uncomfortable. It may even look opposite of what everyone else says we should do. But if it's God's direction, then that's the path we must follow.
That means we cannot lower God's standards just to make life easier or to gain people's approval. If we compromise His standard, we often have to go back and redo what He already instructed us to do.
Another statement that really ministered to me was:
"You have canceled out blessings because you have a closed mind."
Sometimes we're praying for God to move while resisting the very direction He's giving us. God isn't surprised by our circumstances. He already knows the end from the beginning. Our responsibility is to trust Him enough to obey.
Obedience isn't always easy, but it is always blessed.
Another reminder was:
Don't panic.
Speak with authority and truth.
Let Jesus be your standard.
Follow God's timing.
Seek His Kingdom first.
One scripture that immediately came to my mind was:
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." — Matthew 6:33
Seeking the Kingdom isn't just seeking God's blessings—it's seeking His rule, His authority, His standards, and His way of doing things. When we seek His Kingdom first, we are choosing to live according to His Word instead of the world's opinions.
The fellowship also touched on mindset.
Mindset comes first.
You cannot consistently live beyond the level of your thinking. If your mind is fixed on God's Word, your decisions will begin to reflect His will. Financial freedom, purpose, obedience, and spiritual growth all begin with a renewed mind.
One testimony shared was about selling a house. The individual didn't want to sell it, but God instructed them to. It wasn't about what felt comfortable—it was about following God's direction. That's what obedience looks like.
My Takeaway
My biggest takeaway wasn't just about mindset—it was about standards.
I want God's standard to become my standard.
Before I make a decision, I want to ask:
What is God saying?
What does His Word say?
Am I following His direction, or am I following my comfort?

Seeking God's Kingdom means seeking His rule, His standards, and His ways. His Word is the standard—not culture, not trends, and not public opinion.
Your mindset determines your direction.
You cannot consistently live beyond the level of your thinking. That's why Scripture tells us to let the mind of Christ be in us.
When our minds are renewed by God's Word, our lives begin to reflect His purpose.
It was a good message.
My prayer is simple:
Lord, help me seek You first. Let Your standards become my standards. Give me the courage to obey You even when it doesn't make sense, because I know Your way is always the best way.
